The lodge stands on Sasakwa Hill, with the plains running to the horizon. The house blends European style with East African influences: long rooms lined with books, photographs and artefacts, tall doors that let the breeze through, and wide lawns. Thunderstorms can be seen far off across the plains, and the annual wildebeest migration passes through the reserve.
There are six one-bedroom cottages, two two-bedroom cottages, one three-bedroom cottage and one four-bedroom cottage, all with a private plunge pool. The cottages have polished parquet floors, vintage collectables and comfortable furnishings. The Hillside Suite is a one-bedroom, dual-level suite with a private swimming pool. Rates include all meals and beverages, premium wines and spirits among them, twice-daily game drives in open vehicles and road transfers from the Sasakwa airstrip. The four-bedroom cottage has private game drives with one vehicle for up to eight guests.
The lodge runs wine experiences. A swimming pool sits in the main lodge area, and there is a fitness centre. Treatments can be arranged at the spa or in the cottage, and two private tennis courts, where game sightings are common. Bush walks leave with the field guides.
The lodge works with the non-profit Grumeti Fund, which has managed the reserve since 2003 and in 2019 carried out the largest single relocation of Eastern black rhino, nine animals. Guests contribute to its conservation and community work.
Children of all ages are welcome, with babysitting and a Mini Rangers Course on offer. It suits families who want a whole cottage to themselves, and couples who want the hill and the view.
